Namor spies the Silver Surfer on Ikthon’s scanner, and sets out to enlist his aid for a dangerous mission. The Sub-Mariner then interrupts his wedding preparations for some gratuitous fights with the Surfer and then the Hulk, in this first story arc that leads to the formation of the Defenders. The Silver Surfer appeared so seldom in those days that every such instance was a cause for excitement, and this 1971 story was illustrated beautifully by Sal Buscema, with lovingly detailed inks from Jim Mooney.
