From issue #8, the historic first appearance of CAPTAIN UNIVERSE... the Hero Who Could Be... You!!! (Tagline from his later appearances, of course)

Lots to cover with this pair of pages.

Does N.A.S.A. really have tanks and soldiers with M-16's?

Eagle-eyed Michael Golden fans have long noted that these two non-sequential pages seemed to be designed to go together. It's since been confirmed that Golden had constructed these two pages to be page TWO and THREE of issue 8, (and would have been the ONLY double-page SPLASH of his time on the book) but editorial decided part-way through to separate them with a 'recap' page, instead.

Obviously, a previous owner of this pair had decided to underscore the original intent, and arranged to have noted hand-colorist-of-vintage-OA STEVE OLIFF have a go at enhancing them. Now, there will never be any question that the two pages belong together, forever.

Note how Oliff had to paint over some Zipatone� on page one. Too bad. I detect a little airbrushing on page three, as well. Nicely done.

While the overall effect is undeniably striking, the traditionalist in me also might have preferred the pages be left untouched. So, I'm torn. But, like any vintage OA, 'it is what it is.'

This was inker McLeod's only issue on the title.

...just a taste of what lies in the pages of IDW's MICHAEL GOLDEN MICRONAUTS ARTIST'S EDITION November 2020 !! (Though there wasn't room in the book to showcase these two pages next to each other, so this perspective is a CAF exclusive!)
