Description

When the Penny Dreadful television series was launched, I fell immediately in love with it. The concept of having some of the world's most well known and beloved Victorian er fictional characters come together in a single program was a brilliant stroke of genius. I was first introduced to Eva Green in the role of Isabelle in the film The Dreamers, I found her immediately captivating, and no, not just because she's willing to do nude scenes. She just has this spunky attitude that seems to go contrary to how typical Hollywood actresses behave. Specifically in regards to the practice of placing so much focus on "looking beautiful at all times", which means in whatever roles thy play as well as on the red carpet. Here role in Penny Dreadful i one that often called for her to look "ugly", as she struggled with her faith and inner demons, which she embraced and that's not a way many actresses would want to be seen as on a regular basis. Bringing in a combination of well known American actors and mixing them in with well known British actors for the supporting cast was also a stroke of genius.

Anyway, I loved the show and then soon came to find out that Mike Perkins also loved the show as much as I did. So Titan Publishing tapped him to do a cover for their comic book series based on the television series and this is what Mike produced. Sadly, very soon after completing this piece we got word that the show's creator had decided to cancel the series because he felt he had no more stories to tell and that obviously threw a wrench into Titan's plans for the comic book series and this cover ended up not getting published.

As Mike knew how upset I was about the television series getting cancelled and then this cover not getting published, he very generously decided to gift me this original, for which I'm very thankful.

Very cool cover by Mike and a shame it wasn't published. Had no idea you were such a big Penny Dreadful fan. I worked with Reeve Carney and his band Carney for many years back in the day (he played Dorian Gray in the show) and he was Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the broadway play Turn Off The Dark that I was involved with the soundtrack (Bono and The Edge).

Oh, that's so cool. Dorian Gray was one of my favourite characters! Also nice of you to offer up these little nuggets of information as I had no idea he was a musician. Penny Dreadful was the first and only place I'd ever seen him on.

That longing and tortured look is something you can get lost in much like the faces in her dress.  A classic late victorian age style that has the doom and gloom atmosphere.  Funny ah-ha instead of Funny hah-hah, she doesn't normally sign nude stills from her movies.  Which is another one of fate's cruel twists.

Wicked cover! Those blood droplets appear to be so tangible.

That was very cool of Mike to gift this to you (being an art rep. certainly has its Perks ;)

Congrats!

Thanks for bringing back my sad! I was pretty bummed when the show stopped, too. It was so good, imo. Sigh...But having your bud Perkins gift this to you has to cheer you up a bit! What a nice thing to do. And I love his choices here. The blood droplets look deceptively simple, but are perfect. And the effort on that dress. It's a great effect, and executed so well. Congrats (on both the work and working with a cool artist)!

Her likeness is well done but it's the inside dress composition that really grabs the attention.

What a generous and beautiful gift from Mike Perkins to you!  I have never seen the TV show (I know ... how is that possible with the binge watching I am famous for) but I have heard great things, and it is on my list.

Stunning piece.  It's a crime that it went unpublished, but at least now you're giving it an audience.
