DescriptionDo they even MAKE 10-speed bikes anymore? One of THE most memorable covers from ROM. You could almost hear Mantlo cackling in nerd-glee as he faced his Spaceknights against Marvel's Cosmic BigBad. ...and the Silver Surfer joke is pure... gold. Social/Sharing |

And who ended up winning that bicycle?! It felt like it ran on covers forever back then.

That specific ad ran for just two months, if you can believe it. I think there were three other banner ads which ran around the same time. I'll bet the artists HATED having to make room for those banners in their compositions.
...and no, never heard if anyone won the bike. Maybe we should ask Milgrom if he remembers?

The bicycle banner, the Toys R Us shopping spree banner, and the one claiming "This Marvel Comic Could Be Worth $2,500" always seemed to pop up on months with great covers - X-Men 137 and 138, Star Wars 39 and 40, Rom 10 and 11, Avengers 200, What If 31, Daredevil 179. Maybe that's why they stand out so much.

This one takes off all the crossover training wheels and goes to warp speed!

Wow! What a great post to end the year! This is truly a spectacular Rom piece! Out of all of Marvel's intergalactic characters, I always thought that Galactus would be a perfect nemesis for Rom. I haven't read this story but am really curious now to see their interaction! Huge congrats Andrew!

ROM, Galactus and most impressive of all...10-speed bike! This cover has it all, and then some. I'm hoping Galactus rides a 10-speed when he's introduced to audiences in a future Marvel/Disney movie.
