Description
PKNA (Paperinik New Adventures) was a magazine focused on Paperinik (Duck Avenger) character, here called PK, with a more adult approach, introducing some aspects typical of the superheroes', e.g. continuity and page layout and tone, that made that series a real cult (it still is). PKNA first issue was published in 1996, so we're now celebrating the 30 years anniversary: one of the initiatives is led by the Papersera ("Duckburg Chronicle") association (a group of folks who love the Disney comics and aim to spread that love to other people) and saw the creation of a book celebrating PKNA magazine, with contributions of the association members, Papersera forum members, and also PK authors. The book was unveiled at the Lucca Collezionando Comic Con (March 28-29, 2026), and among the guests at the Papersera stand we also had Andrea Freccero, who, for the special occasion, created a gorgeous PK/Mekkano (a tribute to the first issue he illustrated for PKNA) color illustration that was included in the book and also distributed as a print together with the book. Andrea had two really busy days signing and drawing, almost non-stop!
Here' the original piece of the PK/Mekkano illustration, pencil and watercolor, that Andrea then digitally enhanced (colors and some effects) to create the final piece (see additional images). It's simply outstanding how Andrea keeps getting better and better, aging like fine wine. This piece is pure poetry, there's balance and depth, with the epic tone you expect from PK.
