DescriptionThis was either the first or second page of original art that I ever bought, way back when I was still in college. Kane's Superman work in the 80s is underappreciated, IMO, and this was an issue where Gil's virtuosity really shows. When I saw this page (I believe it was at an Atlanta convention), the art just really popped out at me as it was full of Action (pun intended) and the figures almost flew off the page, but it also had neat little touches like the shoulder tap in panel one. Also, I'm not always the biggest fan of angular-panel layouts, but Kane pulls it off with great style. Finally, while I do wish that the inks had stayed nice and black, in this case, I've told myself that the fading markers almost give the page a 3-D effect which I find most interesting.Social/Sharing |

Gil Kane, the best storyteller in comic book, only Kirby could match him, congratulations !!!

This is a terrific example of Gil's storytelling and drafting. I love it.

Very nice. Kane was excellent when he put his full effort in-wish he had used archival inks though!!

Fantastic Gil Kane Superman page! Hard to believe this was your first or second comic art purchase, most of us (Okay, me) made a lot of mistakes before buying something good. But this is a really cool action-packed page by one of the great comic artists! Terrific pick-up for a beginner! Glad you still own it.
