DescriptionHere is the final penciled version of Norrin Radd and Shalla-Bal as Romeo & Juliet with the requested change (in the first prelim, the characters were not reaching out to each other). Unbeknownst to me, after Joe Rubinstein accepted my commission idea, Bob Hall contacted Joe to see if he had any work that he could help him with. Since Bob was both a student of John Buscema's and a theater director specializing in Shakespeare, Joe told him about my commission idea and asked him to do the pencils. Bob reportedly loved the idea and asked to do the pencils. After Bob completed this drawing, Joe showed it to me and asked if I thought it was okay. Frankly, I was pleased with the posing, and I was blown away by the cosmically wonderful night sky of Zenn-La that he drew as a tribute to Mr. Buscema (I think Big John would have been proud), so I wrote back that, indeed, I was okay with it. Now, all that is left is for Joe to work his magic with the inks.Social/Sharing |

Beautiful composition, really dramatic! Plus Bob doesn't have to pay carpenters scale to build this set, so it looks like he let his imagination loose! Mighty cool...

Great idea for "doomed lovers," nicely executed by Mr. Hall. Last year I spoke with him for a while, and he talked about how his directorial work in theater informed his staging for comic book scenes.

I didn't get to meet Bob, but Joe gave me his email address and we had a nice correspondence. As he noted with you, he wrote about how he was able to draw upon his theatrical experience to help him create this illustration.
