DescriptionLarge painting from May 1952 Esquire illustrating the article "The Killer Submarine of the Future" by Fletcher Pratt. Featured as 2 page fold-out. Fred Freeman, along with Chesley Bonestell and Rolf Klep did the paintings for the 1952-1954 Colliers series "Man will conquer space soon!" Since all of Fred's paintings from the series are in the Science Fiction Museum in Seattle I am happy with this rocket launching submarine. Fred Freeman illustrated a number of books for the Navy about ships and submarines so this painting combines the two genres he is known for. The painting was painted in casein.Social/Sharing |
