Description

A recent auction win, followed by a quick call to a dealer.

I happened to know from a comment from Pollard himself that he had been asked to do this cover twice, as Editorial didn't like the Heavy Black Border around the figures on the initial version.

(In his defense, I'm guessing the Black Borders were his solution to getting the figures in the cover to 'pop' from the busy background; while Editorial must have decided it would be better to reduce the busy-ness of the composition with 'color holds.' I have to agree with Editorial.)

I'm unsure whether or not Pollard actually penciled the 2nd (the published version) himself, as there are additional credits present - perhaps it was lightboxed from the original by staff inkers at the Bullpen.

2022 Edit to Add: Inker MARK MCKENNA weighed in with this comment:
"The Micronauts cover was pencil lightboxed in-house from Pollard's inked version and I asked to ink it when I was on staff. It was my first ever cover inks."

While it likely devalues both of them, (the two paired would never sell for what I paid for them separately), I'm still happy to have them together.

Very interesting background story on these. Glad they are together and they couldn't have found a better home!
