Karate Kid vs. The Fox by Dean Haspiel

I guess that I first saw Dean Haspiel's work way back in 1989 when he drew a short Justice League story. But I didn't really take notice and become a fan of his until I started seeing his work in some independent books like Negative Burn and Caliber Presents, and Dean's own Billy Dogma stories. Now at this point, Dean has worked on a little bit of everything, from American Splendor to Batman to my current favorite: The Fox. If you haven't checked out Dean's take on The Fox, I must say that it is one of the most fun comics out there and you really should go buy it. Anyway, I met Dean at Wizard World New Orleans 2015 and talked to him about a Karate Kid vs. the Fox commission. Dean was all for it, but asked if he could draw it at home and mail it to me later. I agreed, and three days after the show, Dean e-mailed me a scan of the finished commission, and less than a week after that it arrived at my door! I love the fluidity in motion of Dean's characters, and that is on display here. Also, Dean draws the best Fox this side of Alex Toth, and I love those floppy ears and expressive eyes on him. And the shading on the Fox's costume is perfect. Big thanks to Dean for a great commission experience!

I love the Fox, but he has basically no chance here. He might get in a hit on pure luck, but Karate Kid outclasses him as a fighter in every way. So yeah, poor Fox. Hopefully Karate Kid will show him some moves after the Fox wakes up from being knocked out!

I completely agree with you on The Fox! Dean's got a great style and I'm looking forward to the next series. He's a great guy to add to the Karate Kid collection. Very nice on Val here. Nice one Travis!
