Description

Ron Miller is not only a great space/astronomical artist but also a scholar and fan of Chesley Bonestell. I first encountered his work writing about space art in the 1978 book Space Art. This painting is done in reference to one of Bonestell greatest paintings "Saturn as seen from Titan" 1944.

Ron deeply influenced both my knowledge and my collecting habits (see dreamsofspace.blogspot.com). This painting although undated has a further connection to the comic art community. It was done for the collection of Richard and Wendy Pini (Elfquest) who had gotten to know Ron though his attendance (and photography) at 1970s science fiction conventions. According to Richard Pini, "We met Ron Miller years ago at a science fiction masquerade, when he was costumed as John Carter of Mars." This painting connects 3 passions of mine in one piece: SF fandom, comic art, and spaceflight art.

Fantastic! The way Ron did those snow-covered peaks and the lighting, is simply mesmerizing!
