Description

Well, I've just seen the Aquaman movie. The first DC movie I've seen since Dark Knight. I figured that I owed it to Nick. And Bob Haney. And Jim Aparo.

I'm glad Aquaman creators Mort Weisinger and Paul Norris got a credit at the end of the movie. I'm disappointed credit was not given for Mera (Jack Miller and Nick Cardy), Ocean Master (Haney / Cardy) and Black Manta (Haney / Cardy).

Orm's full mask/helmet bore a good resemblance to the more spikey version designed by Craig Hamilton in his Aquaman mini-series.

I was also reminded of the shirtless version of a bearded Aquaman from when he had a hook to replace his left hand.

A lot of the imagery reminded me of Esteban Maroto's Atlantis Chronicles series.

Ocean Master was created by Bob Haney and Nick Cardy.

Wonderful artwork by Cardy. Thanks for posting it. But you didn't say - did you like the Aquaman movie?

I didn't intend to give a movie review. But since you ask, on first blush, I think it was pretty good. Except they throw around a lot of names that I didn't get. It wasn't so important but it would be nice to have the information. I'm glad that the movie's humor was pretty much limited to what was in the trailers, I wouldn't want the movie to be a total joke-fest. And you have to accept that both land-dwellers and Atlanteans speak English. Make sure you stay a little longer to see the lead-in to the sequel.

Forgot to update... I later found out that Nick, Peter David, Ramona Fradon, Bob Haney, Esteban Marago, Jack Miller, Paul Pelletier, Joe Prado and Ivan Reis were included in the "Special Thanks" section of the credits (following the song credits). Still... shame on them for not including Jim Aparo !!!
