Description

Just three months before this issue, the original ‘pre-hero’ appearances of characters that Steve Gerber formed into the weird and disturbing group, the Headmen, were reprinted in Weird Wonder Tales #7. This issue saw their first appearance as a team, and as the mysterious nemeses of the Defenders – and this page has the first Defenders-era appearance of Dr Jerry Morgan, and the first time we see the face of Dr Arthur Nagan (shown indistinctly or from behind on the previous page). The air of mystery which Gerber lends to the actions of the Headmen becomes a hallmark of his handling of many of the Defenders’ foes, having them acting in the shadows and to purposes that seem to defy the heroes’ understanding. Signed by Sal Buscema between the top two tiers.
