Description
Posting another one of my Sal Buscema pages in honor of the longtime comic creator's passing last week, aged 89. 😢

Here's a great page from New Mutants #4, the first issue where series co-creator Bob McLeod farmed out the pencil breakdowns to Sal amidst frustrations with keeping up with the book's monthly schedule. I think the collaboration produced some of the more underrated comic artwork from the 1980s.

This was the story ("Who's Scaring Stevie?") where the New Mutants seek to resolve dance instructor and Xavier ally Stevie Hunter's harassing phone call problem. Wolfsbane tracks the culprit's scent to a dance at the local high school where Dani senses extreme fear in one student, who also happens to be one of Stevie's pupils as well... 😬

R.I.P. Sal. 🙏

Lovely page.  That zipatone (or what ever it is) panel it's fun effect.

There's so many tributes because it would have been his 90th birthday today.  Sal will have plenty more because he hit the right nostalgic nerve for 70's-90's comics readers that we were all a part of.

An excellent pairing of main artist and inker. Sal was always so professionally good.

Excellent page. It brings back fond memories. The next year transition from Buscema/Mcleod to Sienkiewicz is still the most famous, and amazingly jarring change in comics history to me.
