DescriptionI think this will be my last Guido Crepax 'Valentina' page...but that also might be a lie since I generally find them quite mesmerizing. But, this one certainly checks the box (at least for me) of a gorgeous example of Crepax's incredible skill with panel design & flow. It's also an enormous (17 x 27.5 inches, 43 x 70 cm) double-page 'wallpower' (a quick shout-out to Felix Lu who I believe coined the term) example that is just striking to behold. I guess size does matter!Anyway, these are pages 25-26 from 'Valentina nel metrò', published for the first time in Linus Magazine in 1975. The story tells her journey into the underground world of Milan's metro stations. Pencil and ink on one piece of heavy art art board, signed & dated. Social/Sharing |

Love it! Especially that final quartet of portraits, and where he decides to leave out lines. A master.

I like the bottom half a lot. It might not be as sexy as the full figure drawing, but the design of the car cabin with the vertical curved bars to frame her figure and the four seats to mirror the four headshots is great visual design work.

This is so great from a design point of view. The panel layouts and visual aliteration is genius. It is clear from examples like this how far ahead of his time Crepax was in understanding layouts, timing and flow. Congratulations.
