Description
I began reading Daredevil with the Micah Synn storyline, specifically issue #206 (May 1984), which was artist David Mazzucchelli's first issue on the title. The incredible issue #208, also drawn by Mazzucchelli, cemented my lifelong love of the character and the title, though, it was not until issue #214 - the conclusion of the Micah Synn arc and the first of only a dozen issues in the run both penciled and inked by Mazzucchelli - that I and everyone else saw just how incredible an artist he really was.

This dramatic page from that issue features the cover scene showing Daredevil crouching on a rooftop in the pouring rain. The layout is just so well-balanced, with the upper three panels showing Micah Synn making his escape from the burning building, the splashy middle panel highlighting Mazzucchelli's exceptional dynamism amidst a series of outstanding action poses, and the atmospheric bottom two panels contrasting a rain-soaked Daredevil with the fiery panels up top - simply amazing. And the inking is just sublime - if you appreciate great comic art, you can't help but love this page!

The angles, the rain, the smoke, the dynamism, just wonderful storytelling!

Stunning page. The jumping scene is terrific, but for my money..the best 2 panels are the last 2. Love the moodiness in the rain. Huge congrats!

What a great example from Mazzucchelli's DD run!  IMO can't beat the ol' multiple-figures-to-convey-movement when it comes to Spidey and DD, then here you got the latter surveying the city in the rain in those last 2 panels?!  Perfecto!  Congrats, Gene!

Atmospheric with many fingerprints to create the smoke and danger!  You could open a line of credit under his name with them!

As fantastic as that dynamic fourth panel is, the last panel takes the cake. It looks like you're looking thru a window pane that's dripping from the rain on the other side

Wow!  At first look I thought it was Born Again as I think of Mazz's work on DD as being more conformist early on before really evolving into what he would become but here he clearly was ready to blossom much earlier.
