Description

Janus, a former friend of Reed (and a megalomaniac determined to conquer the planet), has defeated his former pal and is heading off to the Negative Zone in search of a way of harnessing negative energy. Meanwhile, Sue comes up with a strange plan to ‘surprise’ (or potentially terrify) her son, creeping up on him while invisible. But Franklin seems to be completely aware of her presence, and Agatha Harkness offers an unconvincing explanation.

Officially, the first time the group became aware of Franklin’s powers was when he woke the Thing up after the entire FF had been defeated by the Frightful Four, in FF #130. But this page, from #107, shows an earlier incident, and possibly the first time Sue had noticed something strange about her son.

This page comes soon after Kirby’s marathon run on the book, and Buscema is certainly still following the King’s ‘60s look for Sue. But while Big John may still have been finding his style for the characters, the action and figure work is all in his own inimitable style.

Very interesting to see the art for this early Franklin Richards display of power. Nice Buscema Sinnott FF page, Sue looks great invisible in that 4th panel especially and I love 6-panel layouts. another nice addition!

With the change from Kirby to Buscema, Sinnott made the transition very smooth! Great page, congrats!

Another storytelling master class by Big John, and of course, a gorgeous Sue. Joe was really great with John on Thor or the FF. I miss the time I could buy these books from the rack.

Congratulations Paul !

Great last panel - can almost hear Agatha's voice delivering her line!

One thing kids like is to be sneaked up on. For instance, I crept up and startled my little nephew, making him drop his ice cream cone. He cried and cried, but I think that deep down, he thought it was a pretty good joke. I thought about getting him another ice cream cone, but it was getting pretty late.
Love the Buscema/Sinnott combination!

Haha. Well, I guess Franklin didn't drop an ice cream cone, so all is well with the Universe. Really, nothing to worry about at all.
