DescriptionThe Swamp Thing #8 Pg. 6Art by Mike Perkins Written by Ram V The story of The Swamp Thing #8, "In My Infancy, Part 3", continues! On the previous page after defeating Chemo, Levi reconstitutes as Swamp Thing and senses that "there is something else coming", while Peacemaker is still hot on his trail. Well, that something came directly on the next page in the form of Parasite (Rudy Jones)!!! Engorged on the energy of the Green in the Kaziranga Forest, Parasite leaps into the air towards Swamp Thing to attack. He needs to feed after all! This brilliant splash by Mike Perkins brings Parasite into the issue (as part of the Suicide Squad team organized for the mission by Amanda Waller) for an epic battle with Swamp Thing that starts here and will continue for the next several pages, some of my favorites in the entire issue! The inset panel at the bottom of the page with an extreme close up of Levi's reaction to Parasite's surprise attack is perfect. Check out the published version in the additional images, as I think the coloring by Mike Spicer throughout the entire Swamp Thing vs Parasite battle is excellent also. Wanted to share something monster related for October, and this page works as a double monster bash! Happy spooky season! Social/Sharing |

Another moody page from Perkins. Terrific textures, motion lines, and looming dread on Swampy's face. To be honest, I thought this was Doomsday on first glance!

I thought that Dreams belonged to Neil Gaiman
'Cause each line I got close
They'd call the art Perkins
In feared My art Ram V in Infancy
I faced the frights Chemo
Oh, how could I have Jones
That all my life I only feeded you?
Oh almost Parasite
We're wash ink on Perkin's door
Almost Parasite
How could we splash for more?
I swear Levi can see forever in your eyes
Parasite

A MONSTROUS splash - the parasite gets progressively fiercer in this series - definitely a memorable take. I really love the inset panel of ST's reaction - it really has the vibes of the original Saga run.

You nailed it, that close up of swamp thing is perfect, you can tell he's thinking "OH $#!&" The design of the Parasite is also very intersting, really dig the details of the mushrooms growing from the thighs.

I say it all the time, one of my absolute favourite things about Perkins' art is his closeups and extreme closeups, so that inset panel is absolutely sublime. But damn, bro! It's been so long since I've seen the art for this issue that I'd completely forgotten about this page and that image of an engorged Chemo coming right at us is so terrifying and KILLER! So fab!

Intense Doomsd...er, Parasite? (mushroom) PARASITE ! splash !
(though to be honest, that's the insert panel that wins it for me, very Wrightson homagesque).

Dang, Parasite looks AWESOME! And Mike Perkins was born to draw Swamp Thing, as evidenced by that beautiful close-up. Fantastic add!!

Wet hands with water, apply soap, rub palms together, clean the backs of hands and fingers, clean thumbs, wash fingertips and nails, and finally, rinse and dry your hands thoroughly. Remember, a ounce of prevention is all it takes.

Right on, Kavi! A -perfect- choice for a Halloween kick-off! Could one ever hope to do better than a brilliantly fever-pitch, explosive Perkins monster throwdown? No. Way.
Parasite? More like Outta-site: his grotesquely swollen form (and Doomsday-like protruding bones / thorns / armor) quickly telegraphs to the reader just how much punch he's packing, so that no iota of story momentum is dropped after exploding out of that crazy DPS on pages 2-3. SUPER cool design by Mike to underscore the peril on-hand for Levi here, and Mike's razor cuts (oh my lord, how I love those) add a thrilling, tempestuous touch to the charging terror.
But even with that crazy monster at the top of the page, Mike's true flex is that amazing second panel, with Levi's shock and alarm immediately, palpably registering. Look at that eye!! Swamp Thing's famous brow ridge even provides a "raised eyebrow" to take it over the top... SO awesome. Any comic artist worth their weight needs a shot like that in their bag of tricks, and Mike's is simply tremendous.
Sometimes a comic artist's job is to invest a ton of time and energy into a page to assure the reader whizzes past it in the page-turning, blink-of-an-eye frenzy of a hot story moment and this is one of those. THANKFULLY, you post it here for us to (attempt to!) absorb it. Treats (not tricks!) from Kavi this Halloween! Thanks, man! :)

Yikes! What a stunning introduction of Parasite! Mike Perkins gives us a monster so frightening looking that you actually fear for our hero, Swamp Thing! Mike did an amazing job here, rendering Parasite with so much nuance and detail that he seems almost real! I love the way his torso totally dwarfs his head and there are all these bones and mushrooms growing right on his body! Fearsome is an inadequate job to describe this monster who is enormousely bloated and (one assumes) incredibly powerful! The small panel at the bottom of the splash with the close-up of Swamp Thing's surprised expression only serves to make us fear for the battle that's sure to follow. Great pick-up, congrats!
