Go Nagai's Devilman by Hiruta Mitsuru

I got this from a store called Mandarake in Tokyo. It is so hard to find original manga art, I almost flipped when I saw this as I thought it was a Go Nagai page from the original manga series (it wasn't, but more on that later). Devilman is one of the must-read manga books that started in the early 1970s. Jr. high boys all over Japan went crazy for it as it contained nudity, devil worshiping orgies and ultra-violence that had Japanese PTA's up in arms.

This, however, was drawn by one of Nagai's assistants, Hiruta Mitsuru, who drew it for the more kid-friendly manga adaptation of the animation series (which cut out all the nudity, orgies and ultra-violence). Regardless, it is a "subarashi" example of the "shonen" (boy manga) esthetic: Speed lines! Giant fists! Action!
