Description

No one does whimsy like Humberto Ramos, and this cover always gives me a chuckle.

At this point in the Spidey Saga, Peter Parker is having to deal with being roommates with one of his ex-villains and a very annoying person, Boomerang. He has also recently gotten back together with the love of his life, MJ. So yeah, what would a movie night be like with these three?
Well, I think MJ's & Peter's irritated facial expressions & body language say it best.

This issue started a really fun story where Boomerang brings Peter to the Bar With No Name for a Trivia Night, because the questions are all about Spider-Man and Boomerang knows Peter was Spider-Man's photographer for many years. Of course Peter nails all the answers.

And since the Bar With No Name is filled with villains, Peter pretends to be one himself, calling himself "The Liar."

Things are going okay until the villains find out that the Kingpin has just put a bounty on Boomerang's head. Bar Fight, anyone?

Ramos is still in rare form for these covers.  Cool storyline where Spidey gets a roommate after his fortune as Doc Ock goes away.  The cross hatching work is very cool!  Sharp!

Love all the crosshatching and especially the body language, which is very loose and natural. Of course, the entire idea of sitting at home with the annoying roomate and your girlfriend in puts the fun in FUNTASTIC as well!

That's incredible. Imagine eight million people all wanting to live together. Yeah, New York must be the friendliest place on Earth.

Ha! I'd expect nothing less from Ramos. You're going to get an excellently rendered image, with a big injection of humor. Hey, it's the city that never sleeps! They're bound to get a little cranky. Really fun cover. Congrats!

An interesting cover, but thanks for the explanation otherwise I would be left puzzling over it. Congrats.

Ha ha, gotta have some straight up FUN with OA sometimes, right?!  Dig the humor aspect, particularly coming from Pete and MJ's expressions - "when's this guy gonna LEAVE?!"  :)  Congrats, Paul!

I've got an underlying philosophy about the comics I read and love that I am sure most fans also possess- Comics should be fun(ny).

Growing up as a child of the 80s and 90s, most comics I read, both DC and Marvel, were serious, grimdark, and lacking in humor save for the sardonic. I didn't hate that. In fact, especially in my teenage years, I lived for it. It reflected my mood and temperament at the time.

Yet as I aged, my tastes changed with my maturation, particularly once my two kids were born two years apart. My comic reading decreased as a result of this, but I still read what jumped out to me. And what I found jumping out to me was not the serious, stony, sardonic comics of my own youth, but rather the fun, the funny, and the light-hearted.

So when I eventually saw the cover to Amazing Spider-Man #6 (LGY #807), I fell in love instantly with Boomerang and Pete's relationship. And I fell in love with the cover. Ramos is an artist's artist. He breathes life into Spider-Man like few others have in the last 20 years. And he does the same thing, with Olazaba's inspirational inks, for Boomerang as well.

This is fun. This is funny. And this is the sort of comic book I like to spend my time reading now. I am utterly jealous you have this in your collection, but thank you for sharing it here on CAF so I can stare at it whenever I would like to. Congrats, sir! And all the best!

Wow, what an amazingly well-written comment!  I totally agree with your observations about Humberto Ramos.  What has always attracted me to his work on Spider-Man is the light-hearted nature of his art, even during more serious stories like "Hunted."  I have always loved the more fun and optimistic characters, which is why Spider-Man and Superman are and always will be my favorites.

I too loved the whole Spider-Man/Boomerang dynamic.  It has always been Spidey's villains that define him.  Having Doc Ock actually replace Peter as Spider-Man was genius, as it led to Doc Ock actually rethinking his place in the world.  He even became a hero for a while in his own title.   I think the next logical step was for Peter to actually befriend and "buddy up" with another of his villains.  That's why I am thrilled to own the ASM 6 and 7 covers by Ramos and some of the interiors.

Thank you for this awesome comment!
