DescriptionUnpublished artwork can be really stunning as well. This Hulk transformation page in mixed media (in the main, water color) by Mike McKone is extremely well done and looks even better in person. Many thanks to Tatiana who is very nice and really easy to deal with. Social/Sharing |

This was the best of the bunch, and that's really saying something.

Dear Steve, many thanks! And I totally agree. I did, in fact, obtain another one as well but this was clearly this most striking of all of them.

Cover-worthy, right down to the green socks!
Many thanks, Rick! That was the exact same thought that struck me as well - which is why I tried my best to get it (and was successful just, I think).

Beyond all the technical aspects of composition and color, it really delves into the original Jekyll and Hyde concept!

Thanks very much, Marcus! Yes, it is the execution itself that brings out that concept so vividly. And it is difficult to do this subtly in color as well.

Many thanks, Rubén! There were so many extremely nice pieces but this really stood out. More than that, it seemed to me such a marvellous as well as nuanced execution (and in color to boot) of the transformation process. As someone mentioned, it could easily be a cover. I am so glad that I was quick enough to obtain it (perhaps Felix art drops (which I'm quite often unsuccessful at, BTW) gives one good practice!).

Mike's color work always excels (duh), and so often it's because of the friction he creates with his excellent choices of hues... The Hulk is sort of cheating already because he has green and purple "built in" to any image, but here he leans into the greens, and the piece just soars because of it! Or perhaps that's just the geiger counter? I mean, the whole thing just -screams- radioactive. It's as full of rads as it is of Rad! I love to play these transformation pieces backwards, and watch Bruce's clothes mend themselves as he shrinks down. Highly recommended! :) And I -LOVE- the McKone Hulk! I mean, look at that face! Beautiful (and Mike was even able to keep the teeth white among all that green! Hulk may not know control, but Mike is a master at it)! Another outstanding pick up, CAB! Congrats!

Dear Jason, thanks so much for your characteristically perceptive comments. Yes, the application of color in such a skilful manner adds so very much to the piece as a whole. It is just a beautifully executed piece of artwork and I am so glad to have been able to obtain it.

Mike is one of my favorite color artists - his color work (in addition to pencil/ink) is always gorgeous. Add in my favorite character and I am absolutely blown away. Congrats - thanks for sharing on CAF so I can come visit periodically!
