The 2005-2006 event “Infinite Crisis” returned DC to a multiverse paradigm. Under the hood, Geoff Johns and Grant Morrison were authorized to oversee continuity and plot the overall creative direction for the company. Morrison’s 2008 event “Final Crisis” dramatized the rejection of edgy anti-heroes, with Darkseid failing to remake Earth in his image.
Included here are pages from the series "Ex Machina" which as far as I know is not part of the DC superhero universe. It mixes Atomic Age heroism with Sorkin-style political discourse. A Rocketeer-type action hero finds himself elected mayor of New York City after saving one tower of the World Trade Center from destruction during the 9/11 attacks. He uses his popularity to implement and expound upon libertarian philosophies and policies one suspects he shares with series creator Brian K. Vaughan. He also harbors a dark secret which may be his undoing. The series was published by DC but exists in its own continuity.
