DescriptionPicked this up at SDCC in 2017. It's also reproduced somewhere out there, I can't recall where though. This is one of my favorites of the bunch. Tough to scan, Dave puts little twigs and dirt onto these things to give them dimension. I can only imagine he collects stuff from the ground on his way back to the hotel and encases it in matte medium or something. Fragile, yet very cool.Social/Sharing |

Post for eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams, purge your thoughts of McKean you knew before.
Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar.
Reproduced, somewhere you cannot recall.
Softly, deftly, colors shall caresss you.
Share it, painted, intriguingly impress you.
Open up your mind, let your fantasies designed,
in this genius that you know you cannot fight.
The Leonidas Gerard Butler of the night.
Let your mind start a journey to a strange new world, leave all thoughts of McKean you knew before.
Let your sold take you where you long to be.
Only then McKean belong to me.

Very nice piece John!
Yes Dave uses some turf, dirt & twigs from his garden that he puts on these pieces and lets them stick in the varnish. Dave hasn't done these in SD in a long time but gets a list from Allen before the con starts and does them at home before he leaves to SD so he doesn't have to do them in the Hotel room during the convention. And Dave didn't want to go to SD during the "reign of the Orange baboon" so he wasn't there in 2017

Nice to hear from you, Marc. Yeah, there were a few years where Dave didn't show, but shipped stuff to Allen for pick up at the Con. You have a better memory than me, I couldn't say which years. Some of mine were done in his hotel room at SDCC, but again, no clue which anymore.

It's "foraged" art at its finest! I never get tired of seeing McKean's renditions of the Famous Monsters. Thanks for sharing John!

Actually was done for SDCC 2019 per a Twitter post, by Dave on July 15... unless it was recreated for someone else. I had gotten my Delerium and Desire the same year.
Regardless, this is another classic. Please show more if the spirit moves you. :) Thanks for sharing!

Ha. Sure. Maybe I'll just not say when I got these things, everyone seems to pay more attention to details than I do.

Wasn't meant to be a criticism at all. Appreciate you taking the time to post and share. :)

The jigsaw puzzle effect made me think of Picasso collages (which is not something I write on a CAF comments very often).
