DescriptionAfter Gerber left, Conway, and then Kraft and Slifer hit the fans with the Emissaries of Evil, the Red Rajah and then with the classic ‘Who Remembers Scorpio’ saga. The book was really blessed with gripping plots. I was so inspired on reading this story, aged 10, I decided that, armed with my father’s cine-camera and a large set of felt tip pens, I would produce my own feature length animation of the story during the summer school break. I planned to use cut out characters that could move against fixed backgrounds, with only very limited articulation for any of the characters. I still possess the materials, and I see now that the Hulk had only a moving arm (so that he could punch Scorpio). The summer was somewhat too short for my ambitious project, even with subsequent help from my brother (aged 12) and I ended up committing nothing to film. Which was probably for the best. There’s plenty of action in this four panel page, with Giffen, very early in his career, doing his best Kirby impression in the breakdowns. The face of Hulk in the third panel is a real delight, filling the panel with raw rage and making you wonder whether Scorpio really stood a chance of making it out alive. The bottom two panels were drawn on a separate sheet and pasted on (as art, not a stat). I am grateful to Leo Chuah for selling me this fabulous page.Social/Sharing |

Paul, this page rightfully belongs in your collection. Thanks for sharing your story of not only how much you love this run of the Defenders but also your film making endeavor. I did wish you had completed it though. Who knows we might have had a very creative film maker now if you did.

So much action on this page. Great example from a fantastic storyline, one of the best of Marvel's Bronze Age.
