Have always loved this issue and this recreation blows me away!  Gorgeous!!!  And I have to say Rubenstein's inks here are amazing and it appears to me that Lois' facial features look more like Giordano finishes than the original printed cover and are just stunning!  This one is a grand slam!!!

The excitement of the Justice Society getting their own title again after having to wait a year between their appearances in the annual JLA/JSA team-ups cannot be understood unless you lived it.... and what a pulse-pounding way to begin their second issue!  These early All-Star issues were also the introduction to the stellar talents of Wally Wood for new bronze age comic fans ... a true artistic master who could do it all.  What a joy it was a few years later to learn more about comic history and consume his amazing EC work.  Congrats on winning this outstanding piece of our collective childhood!

That golden image of Green Arrow emerging from the power battery made the original cover pop and works so well here too.  I love the additional details added in the reimagining of the background imagery which heightens the impact of the scene.

Stunning!  There is so much here to love. One aspect that is stand-out is the perspective from the illumination off the sword - what a great artistic choice!

So remember this story and this entire page and the gag!  Love all the Krypto back up stories and especially this time period.  Great fun!

A  great battle-action page with both Supes and Spidey from the comic that blew the minds of every young bronze age comic reader whether you were a DC guy or Marvel Zombie - so cool!

Glad it found a home with one of CAF's preeminent Legion collectors.  I like this page a lot with the lovely images of a flirtateous Phantom Girl and Superboy's timid response.

Thanks for sharing such great art along with the history involved.  What a gem!  That recreation is fantastic and the concept and layout superior to the actual Buzzy cover it later inspired.  And agree on the sketch book in the recreation making the gag even better.

Selina's bronze age costume will always be the one closest to my heart and the scene and layout here is just wonderful.  Flawless image!

How cool to see a Grell Krypto!  The image immediately made me think of that Action 440 story before reading your description.  It was that comic that made me a Krypto fan. And a Mike Grell fan with that story being one of his earliest works.  I walked to the candy store in Brooklyn with my grandpa and he bought it for me when I begged him for it instead of candy ... my first new comic book!  Money was tight for them but they were always generous with us.  And he was the coolest and bought me some candy too.  I don't remember what candy I got but will always remember and treasure that comic and all within it.

Totally agree and love these pages from the Flash back-up stories.  Hal never looked better.  It was my first year of comic collecting and I couldn't understand what happened to the ongoing Green Lantern comic (I'd found some older issues that were my brothers and long ago abandoned in the basement closet prior to realizing new comics were still coming out and available in a store in my area).  How thrilling it was when they announced Green Lantern #90 would be coming out!  And I saw the same great artwork from the Flash stories!  It was the search for Mike Grell artwork (along with Dick Dillin) that got me going in our hobby.  So great to see this page!

Great sketch!  How cool would a Steve Rude Pre-Crisis JSA mini-series be ??? 

The use of shading and zip-a-tone especially in those second and fifth panels stood out as a newer comic reader and  even moreso impressive almost fifty years later as an original art collector.

Wow!  Fantastic page - love the space panels of Hal.  My friend dubbed Tomar Re the "chicken fish" Green Lantern decades ago - not very respectful of Green Lantern lore but he was a Marvel fan.  Tomar Re was always one of my favorite intergalactic Green Lanterns so very cool to see a page from his first appearance.

My two favorite heroes of all-time in their most heroic incarnations by a living legend.  How could I not love this sketch!?!

Wowza!!!  Oksner has a special place in my heart due to his inking of  many of my first Superman stories but it was discovering his good girl humor art that made me an even bigger fan.  This is a knock-out example.  Just gorgeous.  Thanks so much for sharing.

What a gem!  Any Hal Jordan fan would be absolutely thrilled to own such a fantastic page from Star Sapphire's second appearance featuring them prominently and interacting together.  Outstanding!  Congrats and thanks for sharing.

Truly thrilling to see this cover preserved.  What an outstanding piece of our history.  Pre-hero DC comics was actually one of my focus areas of comic collecting before I gave up pursuing back issues with marriage taking over my time and financial resources way back in 1991 - it really is a joy to know this cover has survived and is here for us to enjoy.

Always a joy to see a page that you remember even though its been perhaps decades since you picked up the comic.  This is one of them for me.  As Roy Thomas worked his magic introducing the golden age to bronze age youngsters I loved every minute of it.  What a great time when the line between the "good guys" and the "bad guys" was so clear both in history and in comics.  "Okay, Axis .. Here we Come!!" indeed!!!

From my first issue of Spider-Man!  Love this great battle/chase page - as nine year olds it was pretty cool to see them fight on the tops of the cars in traffic and into the bus & it's still freakin awesome as a fifty-six year old!!!  Go Spidey!!!

What an All-Star roll call on this page!

So envious of you on this one!  Recognized this page and remembered the dialogue before making it large enough for my aging eyes to view it.  What a fantastic page!  It was less than a year into my comic collecting mania and although Batman wasn't one of my favorites I'd still pick up any issues I found if I had enough money.  So I'd read a number of Batman stories by this issue's release.  Even as a nine year old I knew this story was different from the others and felt its weight and impact and it become one of my favorites.  Year's later I'd read about how signficant this story was to so many Batman fans.  It's a joy to savor this page with its dynamic and deliberate action flow.  I especially love that third panel of the thug holding the gun in front of him and the little lines to its sides conveying the fear in his shaky hands.  Brilliant comic story telling and layout.  Denny O'Neil doing comics as they should be done - Dick Giordano's always eye-appealing pencils - and Terry (everything I touch is gold) Austin's inks.  Easy to understand why this is a bronze age classic!  So good!  Congrats on owning this beauty.

Hard to imagine a dynamic Bouncing Boy splash and yet here it is in all it's glory.  You have to think that this is the sort of thing many will view shaking their heads with disdain - but for bronze age Legion fans this IS the stuff!  Nasser's work during this time is as phenominal as it is scarce.  And Abel does a great job here enhancing and not overpowering his pencils as we see too often with lots of Abel's work.

Congrats on this really nice Grell prelim!  I also immediately identified the issue when Anthony posted it and circled back several times pondering its purchase.  There isn't enough Grell Green Lantern art out there! Glad it found a home where it will be appreciated.

My favorite cover from this run - so wish I'd have purchased it when it was up for sale.   Absolutely gorgeous and evokes the best of bronze-age Grell and then some. Truly picture perfect setting enhances the character images. Adore it!  Congrats for being wise enough to snag it and add it to your collection. One of many amazing pieces of art in your gallery but could easily be the big showpiece of any Grell (or Warlord) fans collection.

Don't know whether to feel relieved or disappointed that Anthony 'cheated' ... but I think most of SDCC attendees would definitely have chosen 'relieved' for Anthony's choice of showmanship.

Gorgeous page - Giordano artwork is so beautiful and this is an exceptional example.  I love his page layout with the boxes split between the story and the credits ... so cool.  Makes me want to find the comic to see the rest of it.

This is one awesome Grell Jon Sable cover! Congrats!  Love the layout with Sable stradding the city landscape and the mysterious woman's image behind him. At some point savvy collectors will likely take note of this series along with so many other great comics from First that are overlooked ... although even now artwork from them seems to be scarce even for those of us looking.
