Description

This is another highlight in the book, as it serves as a reminder of a great exchange I had with writer/artist Ty Templeton. I approached him at his table at a con in Toronto in 2002 and asked for a sketch, mentioning the "Ouch, That's Gotta Hurt!" theme.

He set out to recreate a scene of from his recent Bigg Time graphic novel from DC/Vertigo, during which the lead character pisses on an electrified third rail. I commented how appropriate it was for me, since I had a comics review website called The Fourth Rail. "Are you Randy or Don?" Ty asked. Randy Lander and I were thoroughly active and well-read comics reviews in the early oughts, and it was a pleasure to learn our work was recognized in the industry. Ty and I had a great chat.

There's so much detail in what was supposed to be a quickie sketch. The SFX, the rails, the electricity, the body language and spasms... and it's a reproduction of a whole scene.
