Description

From the Face Value storyline.

An early appearance of Angela.

Of course, Carol Day is the star of the strip. But Angela looked really good after her nose job.

David Wright drew really nice noses!!!

Q: Does anyone know why the blue pencil was used ?
A: See Peter's note below!! Thanks, Peter !!!

Carol Day was created by David Wright and Peter Meriton.

I'm supporting the Carol Day: Jack Slingsby book. The print run is limited to pre-orders only !!! Pre-orders end November 15 !!!

Fantastic daily!  I have no insider info, but my guess is that Wright used blue pencil to explore shading possibilities before committing himself in ink and that he decided against hatching in the blue areas in this case.  I like the look of the raw art with the blue halftones

Regarding the blue pencil on the artwork .Can answer that as I bought some early work by Sydney Jordan who was drawing for newspapers at the same time this was done.He said that the printers at the papers had some deal whereby only they could put on the shadow tints and effects rather than the artist who could only show via the use of blue pencil where they wanted shadow texture to be printed.Am sure that if you could dig out a copy of the paper in which this was printed originally you would see that the blue areas are given a shadow effect. For some bizaare reason the artists themselves could not add zipatone or any of these effects  themselves which may explain all the crosshatching which had no printer involvement.
