Description
I always loved Marvel and DC titles that revamped Golden Age characters. Marvel had the Invaders and the Liberty Legion, and DC had those wonderful JLA/JSA crossovers and the Freedom Fighters.

This issue showcased Batwoman and Batgirl in a story entitled “The Sideshows of Doom”, in which our erstwhile heroes have to go undercover at Kane’s Kolossal Karnival.

The ‘Kane’ in question is actually Kathy Kane, AKA Batwoman, and the undercover operations reveal that the circus has been overtaken by aliens. Of course. And who doesn’t love the old GA-heroes-uncover-alien-activity-at-a-circus-secretly-owned-by-a-superhero trope?

The Uncle Sam faces are great on this page, and Abel’s inks are so crisp and shiny.

I can't tell if he's Uncle Sam or Jack The Ripper! Haha, I jest...sorta. The Abel inks are so nice on this! I've said it before and I'll say it again (and it won't be the last time) but always gotta appreciate a good 6-panel layout. congrats!

It doesn't look too retro a style though as Ayers and Abel made it look just as modern as if they were drawing Legion.

Some classic DC 70's art. Freedom Fighters was one of the few titles I didn't follow and now I am intrigued. I mean who can resist the old GA-heroes-uncover-alien-activity-at-a-circus-secretly-owned-by-a-superhero trope?

I first encountered the Freedom Fighters in Crisis. Then I read about their adventures in the 1970s, which weren't many, but they were cool. Congratulations.

Where's the flying elephant? The sign on the door said there was a flying elephant. We've been bamboozled!
