Marvel and DC were both impressed by the artistic, critical, and financial success of the French magazine Metal Hurlant. Marvel's version of the concept of "comics for adults," Epic Illustrated ran only 34 issues then was revised into a series of more traditionally packaged Epic-branded comic book series. One of the first out of the gate was this bimonthly space pirate series from Bill Mantlo and Jackson Guice, who had worked together on the well-received Micronauts comic. Guice left this series after five issues to join Bob Layton on the start of X-Factor, handing art over to Geof Isherwood, with a couple of issues by Colleen Doran later. This gallery has Guice's concept art for Captain Raader, a more recent commission, as well as some pages from the other two artists mentioned above, and a more recent remarque by Isherwood in my hardback edition of the series.
